Alchemy was once strictly associated with the process of the transmutation of lead into gold. The real truth about alchemy was the transformation of the soul itself. This transformative process was based upon the idea that the human soul could be metamorphisized, like a butterfly, from a heavy and dense material, like lead, to the lightness of gold. In other words, alchemy was really about the process of the transformation of the soul - from the 3-dimensional cage of the human body - to the multidimensional enlightenment of a "light" body. The light body was symbolized by gold and it was the ultimate attainment for the master alchemists.
